HEATSTORE - High Temperature Underground Thermal Energy Storage

GEOHEAT
The European Geothermica HEATSTORE project, bringing together 24 partners from 9 countries, aims to accelerate the deployment of Undergroung Thermal Energy Storage (UTES) coupled with district heating networks. The objectifes are to reduce costs, risks, and improve the performance of this set of technologies. BRGM, the French geological survey, aims to estimate the potential contribution of UTES to the energy transition. This is based on the cross-referencing of data related to surface infrastructures (heating networks), waste (e.g. from the industry) and the characteristics of the underground. The published results will represent, aggregated by region, the quantity of heat that can be stored in the underground and reinjected back to the district heating networks.
