Cancer Risk Attributabke to the Body Art of Tattoing (CRABAT)

Despite the high prevalence of tattoos in France (and an upward trend), knowledge of the health consequences of tattoos is scarce, and tattoos are generally regarded as harmless. Against this backdrop, the CRABAT study aims to provide a detailed assessment of tattoo exposure in order to study the potentially associated cancer risk. It will be based on data from the French Constances cohort and the German national cohort. The pathologies to be studied will be: 1) non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and skin cancer; 2) cancer of organs likely to be (less) exposed (kidney, liver, brain and bladder); 3) immune pathologies linked to cancer formation, and reproductive consequences. The role of tattoos in skin cancer diagnosis will also be explored.
