Statistical concepts and definitions
Hotel stock is measured every year on 31 December and occupancy is measured every month.
The main topics considered are:
- characteristics of the establishment; -
accommodation capacity;
- daily room occupancy;
- arrivals and nights spent by country of residence of tourists;
- average length of stay;
- proportion of business tourism.
Statistical population
This survey covers the activities defined by the NAF rev.2 codes: 55.10Z (hotels and similar accommodation).
The survey covers all tourist-oriented hotels, whether classified or not.

The survey is conducted on a national sample of about 12,000 hotels from 18,000.
