Data description
The themes are about:
- the situation of the association;
- mode of governance and management;
- members;
- the field of activity;
- employees and other personnel;
- volunteers;
- resources;
- expenditures;
- the provision of premises or land;
- belonging to a network.
Statistical unit
The interrogation unit is the association, identified by its SIREN number if it is listed in Siren, otherwise its RNA number from the National Directory of Associations.
Statistical population
The total scope of the "Associations" survey is associations under the 1901 law and similar:
- active (having existed) at least one day in 2018,
- located in France (metropolitan France and overseas departments including Mayotte),
- and present in the Sirène directory or the national directory of associations (RNA) at the end of 2018.
For associations present in the Sirène directory, the scope of the Associations survey is defined by legal category 92, with the exception of associations of lawyers with individual professional responsibility (legal category 9224) which are not under the regime of the law of 1901.
For associations absent from the Sirène directory but present in the National Directory of Associations (RNA), no field restriction is applied since this directory contains only associations under the 1901 law. The associations surveyed are units under the 1901 law regime or assimilated, located on French territory (metropolitan France and overseas departments including Mayotte), active as of 31/12/2018 and having had at least 1 day of activity in 2018.
Reference area
France
The data on the number of employees (SAL_NB, SAL_TPS_PLEIN, SAL_TPS_PARTIAL) and the data on the governance of the association are for the situation as of 12/31/2018. The rest of the data is for the year 2018.
Unlike in 2014, the same questionnaire was submitted to both employing and non-employing associations. Thus, on the 'employing' part, the survey will be comparable to the 2014 survey on the situation of associations in 2013. On the 'non-employer' side, the 2019 survey has many more items. Changes in the survey design and adjustment methods may affect some changes at the margin.
Sample size
34,202 units (17,161 employer associations and 17,041 non-employer associations).
