This project aims to measure the impact of apprenticeships in higher education. We take advantage of a reform that liberalized the opening of training centers by removing the requirement for regional administrative authorization. The reform's objective was to substantially increase the supply of training programs. The resulting growth in the number of centers significantly reduced the average distance to a center for each potential student. The project leverages this exogenous variation in distance to explain individual choices between preparing a degree through an apprenticeship or through full-time initial education. We then study the effect of apprenticeships on the likelihood of dropping out, on obtaining the targeted degree, and on the probability of continuing further studies in higher education.
