Centralized assignment platforms and student success in higher education

PLATETU
This research project, developed in partnership between the Institut des Politiques Publiques (PSE/GENES) and MIT Blueprint Labs, explores how higher education placement decisions affect students’ academic success. It places particular emphasis on disparities in educational trajectories linked to students’ academic and social backgrounds. The analysis draws on data from France’s centralized higher education assignment platforms (Admission Post-Bac and Parcoursup), matched with a rage of administrative databases tracking students’ educational paths and outcomes. The objective is to rigorously estimate the causal impact of specific placements on academic trajectories, using innovative methodologies from the empirical market design literature.
