This research project analyzes efficiency wage practices among French firms as a component of their financial and organizational policies, in a context of renewed debates on value sharing. It aims to quantify firms’ propensity to pay wages above market conditions and to examine these choices as strategic decisions regarding value-added allocation and human capital management. Using matched employer–employee microdata combined with firm-level accounting data, the project identifies persistent wage differentials that are not explained by observable worker, job, sector, or firm characteristics. It then analyzes the relationship between the use of efficiency wages and firms’ financial policies, performance, and resilience, particularly around periods of economic crisis or changes in the legal framework.
