Primordial prevention aims to prevent the onset of risk factors for cardiovascular disease. To this aim, the American Heart Association has provided in 2010 a 7-item tool to monitor the cardiovascular health status and to promote optimal cardiovascular health in the population.
The objectives are to:
- Describe the distribution of cardiovascular health in French middle-aged subjects
- Assess the individual and contextual determinants of cardiovascular health
- Correlate cardiovascular health with incident diseases, including CVD, cancer, depression, and all-cause or cause-specific mortality.
After NHANES in the US, this will be the second nationwide study on cardiovascular health, its determinants, and links to incident diseases and mortality. It could identify vulnerable subgroups for health promotion and, in the mid-term, extend to the Lifepath consortium. Repeated follow-ups in CONSTANCES will also allow analysis of changes in cardiovascular health and their impact on outcomes.
