MOTIV: a textual statistical analysis of inequalities in access to higher education

This research project aims at measurint inequalities in access to higher education in France based on the cover letters that high school students write on the Parcoursup platform when entering their higher education orientation choices. Using recent textual statistics methods derived from Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques, we will seek to identify differences in the themes, style, form, but also the implicit content of these letters between high school students between high and low SES. This project will also seek to measure the importance of the information contained in the letter to predict success based on individual and social characteristics.
