Thesis work of Fanny Lacroix: Analysis and simulation of territorial metabolisms in a dynamic of industrial ecologicaal transition

SIMETRI
Fanny Lacroix began her thesis project in July 2024. The thesis project is part of sustainable development and the growing implementation of the circular economy and sobriety policies. In this context, territorial metabolism studies, and in particular the material flow analysis (MFA) method, aim to help understand the physical functioning of a territory by quantifying the material flows it extracts, produces, imports, transforms, stores, consumes, rejects, and exports in order to implement sobriety policies and make the territory more sustainable. An MFA methodology was developed in France in 2014 and has been widely used at the subnational level. However, numerous limitations have been identified in the scientific literature. The objective of the thesis work is to overcome several of these limitations by using data science and AI to improve the automation of data collection, processing and analysis in order to transform AFM into a decision-making tool for territories.
