Successful CNIS symposium on pairings

Nearly 170 people attended the CNIS symposium on public statistics matching, held on May 28, 2025, highlighting the value of these methods for enriching studies, research and public policy assessments.

Opened by Jean-Luc Tavernier, Director General of Insee, and three years after the January 2022 symposium on the same subject, this meeting was in response to a recommendation from the consultation group which, under the aegis of the CNIS, had specified the tools envisaged by Insee to develop matching, and improve quality and harmonization compared to what had been practiced until then.

The use of the Non-Significant Statistical Code (NSSC), the Répertoire statistique des individus et des logements (RESIL) and several examples of matching were presented in detail. The latter covered a range of themes: individual vehicle traffic, employment estimates and the integration of young graduates.

The symposium concluded with the presentation of a reference framework for matching by official statistics, with the aim of harmonizing practices while respecting the principles of necessity, minimization, transparency, security and data protection.
