EXIL explores the perception and anticipation of the effects of residential location in remote suburban and rural areas.
The impacts of interest are health - exposure to pollution, physical activity; travel time, time available; housing costs, travel. Step 1 is to characterise these dimensions using spatial indicators to compare objective measurements and perceptions. The project will use epidemiological models to establish the relationship between residential history, neighbourhood characteristics and health indicators. In step 2, the weight of health, time and cost determinants on residential location will be assessed (discrete choice models).Using causal inference models, EXIL will also exploit the panel dimension of the data to identify natural individual experiences (e.g. health events that influence health preferences) or territorial experiences that explain residential mobility.
