Displacement and residential mobility. The effects of gentrification in contemporary Paris

GENTRIF
Gentrification and upgrading are among the most widespread and powerful urban dynamics that have transform Western cities in the recent decades. The effects of these transformations have been debated for almost a century, but some lines of research remain unexplored. Although displacement is mentioned as one of the most negative consequences of gentrification, almost exclusively qualitative studies have shown that this is indeed the case. My research aims to establish the link between gentrification and displacement by examining the residential mobility of low-income Parisian and Ile-de-France residents. Using geo-referenced panel individual data, I aim to trace mobility trajectories and demonstrate that forced mobility exist and have negative effects, especially for low-income residents and/ or immigrants.
