An economic approach of wolves comeback in France

RETLOUP
Even if we are experiencing a collapse of biodiversity, the wolf population rapidly grows in France. Despite the economic challenges associated with predation on livestock, the wolf plays a benefic role for ecosystems and provides economic services such as reducing road accidents, with significant gains observed in the United States of America and France. Based on this observation, we would like to answer the following research question: What are ecosystem services providing by wolves and how do we compare them with socio-economic costs? To answer this question, we will use a double-difference model. We will compare several variables, over the period 1995-2020, between regions with and without the presence of wolves (first difference) but also before and after their comeback in a region with wolves (second difference. Thanks to this model, we’ll obtain precise estimates of the costs and benefits associated with their comeback.
