Since 1986, CEREN has been conducting annual correspondence surveys among establishments in the tertiary sector regarding heated building stocks, the types of energy used, their applications and consumption, and the equipment in use.
To ensure a relevant approach to the tertiary sector, CEREN's methodology is based on grouping activities according to their energy profile similarity, with branches of activity rigorously defined based on the French activity classification.
These surveys contribute to CEREN’s development of an annual assessment of building stocks and energy consumption for each branch, ultimately leading to a comprehensive energy report for tertiary buildings. The objective is not only to provide a detailed overview of energy consumption in the tertiary sector but also to evaluate annual consumption trends and explain them by distinguishing between changes due to economic activity and those resulting from improvements in energy efficiency.
