Study of the effects of intra-European mobility on the French labour market
My research project will assess the effects of intra-European worker mobility on the French labour market. To this end, my project will focus on a unique European policy which has authorized European workers to be temporarily sent to work in the French labour market, while also allowing these workers to remain affiliated to the tax and social security systems of their countries of origin (the 'posted workers directive'). I will use this unique framework to study how this policy, which has promoted intra-European worker mobility, while creating significant labour cost differentials, has affected French companies' performance and the long-term structural changes of some sectors of the French economy. I intend to measure the impact of posted workers on productivity and employment in the sectors and geographical areas exposed to different degrees of access to this policy.
