Technology, Competition and Labor Markets
We analyze the impact of three economic trends on the labor markets: the evolution of new information and communication technologies, globalization and the mobility of workers across regions and firms. We assess the impact of these trends on product and labor markets. In the product market, we study how the trends impact the organization of production within and between production units. In the labor market, we study the impact of the trends on employment, wages and occupational choice of workers. We also study how the trends affect workers differently depending on their skill level and their preference for non-wage attributes of jobs. We combine statistical analyses with economic modelling. With the latter, we study the welfare effects of technology and trade and evaluate labor market policies that can mitigate their adverse effects.
