Effects of parenting on adolescence and on the labour market in France

A birth during adolescence is often associated with a negative effect on a high education and labor market trajectories. In this project we will go beyond statistical associations to identify causal impacts of such births on professional trajectories and on the parent’s income. It is thus necessary to control the bias of anti-selection and it is possible that adolescent mothers have less of a career on the labor market, independently from the birth of their child. What would have been their trajectories if they had not became mothers ? The same analysis will be carried out for adolescent fathers. We will use the most advanced econometric tools, and according to the EDP survey’s quality, we could use matching techniques, instrumental variable regressions or a Heckman selection model.
