The objectives of the Health and Social Protection survey are to study the links between health status, access to health services, access to public and private health insurance and individual characteristics, particularly social and economic status. Cross-referencing this information provides data for analyses on the equity of the health system and informs public action by participating in assessments of public policies, such as questions on the complementary universal health coverage (CMU-C), medical deductibles, and named general practitioner.
The themes addressed are as follows
- Social protection schemes (compulsory and complementary);
- Reported diseases and health disorders;
- Doctor visits;
- Consumption of medicines;
- Auxiliary care;
- Hospitalization;
- Avoidance of health care and health-related opinions.
In collaboration with the Drees (French Directorate of Research, Studies, Evaluation and Statistics), the Health and Social Protection survey provided the basis for the European Health Survey, which has become the only representative general population survey on this subject in France.
