CNIS: Statistical panels and cohorts, what new tools to enlighten the public debate?

Observing trajectories in order to understand societal issues has been a concern of the CNIS for some twenty years. Official statistics in France now include several panels and cohorts and some of these sources have data covering several decades. Moreover, the issues and problems surrounding panels have evolved, particularly thanks to the increased possibilities of mobilising administrative sources in a longitudinal manner.

The colloquium aims to highlight illustrations of original and new longitudinal data over the last few years and, from a forward-looking perspective, to question current or potential statistical developments.

CNIS Chronicles No. 26 “Panels and cohorts in official statistics, an overview in 2020” is a first preliminary report on this subject.
