Started in 2003, the so called “continuous labour force survey” replaces the annual survey. Data collection is conducted throughout the year, thus allowing quarterly assessments of the labour market situation and unemployment. Information is gathered regarding occupations, female and youth labour market situation, working hours, casual employment and wages. These surveys enable a better understanding of unemployment regarding the labour market situation.

Enquête emploi en Continu - 2018
L'enquête Emploi en continu est la seule source fournissant une mesure des concepts d'activité, chômage, emploi et inactivité tels qu'ils sont définis par le Bureau international du travail (BIT). Elle comporte par ailleurs des informations très nombreuses sur les caractéristiques des personnes (sexe, âge, diplôme, expérience, etc), les conditions d'emploi (profession, type de contrat, temps de travail, ancienneté dans l'emploi, sous-emploi, etc.), les situations de non-emploi (méthodes de recherche d'emploi, études, retraite, etc.).
L’enquête Emploi est produite selon un calendrier trimestriel et sa collecte se déroule en continu tout au long de l'année. L’échantillon est constitué de logements. Une fois qu’un logement a été tiré, ses occupants seront enquêtés six trimestres consécutifs. La première interrogation et la dernière se font en face à face ; les interrogations intermédiaires au téléphone. La réponse par un tiers est autorisée.
Le questionnaire de l'enquête Emploi a été rénové au 1er trimestre 2013, en particulier pour faciliter sa passation et pour mieux se conformer aux principes européens. Le contenu des fichiers trimestriels de l’enquête Emploi a été redéfini en 2013, suite à la rénovation du questionnaire.
Les départements d'outre-mer, à l'exception de Mayotte (Guadeloupe, Martinique, Guyane, La réunion) ont pleinement intégré le dispositif de l'Enquête Emploi en continu en 2014. Les fichiers 2018 portent donc sur la France entière, hors Mayotte.
Certaines variables sont destinées à Eurostat pour la production d'indicateurs européens. Elles sont présentées en anglais, telles qu'elles ont été transmises à Eurostat.
